SERVICE DEVELOPMENTS

Launch of “SELF REGISTRATION” on LDU Community Online —

Did you know that individuals are now able to register themselves on Learning Together?

Managers no longer need to complete ‘new starter’ forms, then wait for us to send you user names — individuals can now set up their own accounts directly onto the system! It takes seconds to do, and your account is active immediately.

A couple of things to note before your staff do this:

  1. Please make sure the manager of the service, or whoever will be the authorising manager, has an account already – if your staff apply for any courses that require manager approval, they will need to be able to select the correct person to authorise their booking.
  2. An email address is now required for each individual. This can be work or personal – this is by far the most effective way to make use of the full benefits of LDU Community Online – they will receive confirmations of bookings, reminders for courses that they’ve booked onto, and notifications of changes or cancellations of courses.  If individuals don’t have email addresses, it is very quick and easy to create their own, via Yahoo, Google, Hotmail, etc.

Please see attachment for a  ‘How To Guide’ giving easy instructions on how to do this, however, within a week or so, there will be videos on the LDU Community Online ‘login’ page to walk people through the process

As always you can contact LDU Community and we will be happy to help.

CONFERENCE NEWS

Clive Richardson (training co-ordinator) attended the 24th annual Alzheimer’s European Conference in Glasgow this October – the conference theme was Dignity and Autonomy.

There were 300 delegates from 34 countries and speakers presented current and on-going research findings that have a direct impact on care.  Clive is using this information to update our dementia training.  Existing information used has been improved and new hand outs added to support the programme, in particular around social inclusion, participation and communication.  Clive has also registered with the European research support group so that we are kept up to date with new research as it is published.

Some of the LDU Community staff attended the Learning Pool Live conferences in Manchester and London this month.  There were some fantastic speakers and workshops about the nature of learning and skills development in the 21st century, focussing very much on how we as employers can best help our staff learn and develop themselves.

As a result of this, we’ll be developing forums and blogs to accompany many of our programs, which individuals can use to share their experiences and knowledge, and learn from each other.  We’ll also be making use of the ‘virtual classroom’ function we now have – this enables a traditionally classroom-based subject to be taught still in an interactive group method, but using online technologies, negating the need for excess travel, which in our county can be fairly considerable distances.

We will of course let you know more about these as we go, but watch out for more news, blogs, forums, across the site.

Some great news — Alex Poole, Systems Administrator within LDU, was awarded ‘Most Aspiring e-Learning Trainee of the Year 2014’ at the Learning Pool conference we attended in London.  This is a national award which is in recognition of all the great work that Alex has undertaken whilst working within LDU Community both as an apprentice and now as an employee.

We are all very proud of this achievement – Well done Alex!
